FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND PUBLISHING GUIDE

Q. How do I get a book produced by print on demand if it is not available as a digital file?

Provide us with hard copy which we can either type in or scan, or for reprints supply us with an existing book which we can disassemble and scan in order to produce a digital file ready for printing. There will be an extra charge for this service which will be quoted upon receipt of the book.

Q. What formats and bindings can you print?

We can produce books in the formats and bindings listed on our Publish page.

Q. What paper does WRITERSWORLD use?

The standard text paper is 80gsm volume 12.5 and the covers are printed on 250gsm Coated Board. If required we are also able to print on 60, 70, 90, 100gsm white or 120gsm Art paper. Bookwove volume 18 is available on request. Please see section Paper and Cover Specifications.

Q. Can you reproduce line drawings and duotones?

Yes. These should be supplied at a minimum of 600 DPI resolution. The quality of reprint duotones will be dependent on whether the book was scanned from a hard copy or originally prepared for printing digitally.

Q. What is the minimum and maximum number of pages?

The minimum is 48 and the maximum is 750.

Q. Who controls or decides which format the book is to be produced in?

The writer retains full control of format, pricing, etc.

Q. What are the minimum and maximum quantities?

The minimum is one copy and the maximum is quite simply the point where conventional printing methods become cheaper.

Q. How good is the quality of print on demand reprints compared to original books?

It depends to an extent on the quality of the original hard copy. When scanning from hard copy the quality of the finished book will not be better than the original.

Q. Can you reprint in a paperback edition if we only have a hardback edition available?

The text is no problem but we cannot scan a hardcover jacket and produce a paperback cover. In this instance the best option is for WRITERSWORLD to produce a simple cover incorporating the flap text on the reverse and to supply the printer with a digital file of the cover.

Q. When reprinting from an existing book, what happens to the disassembled book? Is it returned?

The book cannot be returned to the writer in its original condition.

Q. If I hold a digital file already, what formats can WRITERSWORLD accept and how should I send it?

Ideally MS Word format (or comparable rich text format) which will, after checking and editing, be converted into PDF files. Files can be submitted on CDs, on floppy disks, or as e-mail attachments.
