In the 1920's, after the war to end all wars, John Manders was very much the king of his own little kingdom in Port of Leith, Edinburgh. The autocrat ran his timber yard the way he wanted and Manders was not for changing.  But changes were to come in a most unexpected way.  His doting daughter Jeannie found her whole character was put to the test when she is taken from her sheltered existence in the comfortable suburbs of Leith and thrown in at the deep end of a male dominated timber yard. Jeannie, with a mind of her own, has to face prejudice and scepticism on all sides.  Her greatest danger comes from Wattie, a young man with ambition, cunning and of a questionable background. Wattie wanted more, the timber mill of his work would be a start. Manders Timber accidentally came within his grasp  Even money was not to be his worry after finding a skeleton in a cupboard....but another kept the door shut! A power struggle between Wattie and Jeannie ensues over the future of the yard and John Manders appears to be oblivious to what is going on.

Alexander Kingston Cameron is a retired accountant and is now a full time writer. Born and bred in Edinburgh his beautifully descriptive prose about the Port of Leith arises from first hand knowledge of the area over many years. Although now living just outside Glasgow, Edinburgh is where his heart lies and it provides the setting for this, his first novel and indeed his second, which is nearing completion. He has also written a number of short stories, one of which, "Going Out", has been adapted into a screen play and it is due to commence filming next month with a local production company.
